what he would do on that nights show. That kind of programming, music based, is lacking on 5,with the exception of Norm N Nite.
It would be great to have Matt doing weekend evenings after Norms shows? A great one two punch, indeed. |
Indeed, benale!
Here's the new Cat Fight! All about the beautiful song "Prisoner of Love." More great music, more great stories, more great Matt the Cat! Bring him back, SXM!

This week Matt the Cat dedicates the whole show to one of my favorite songs, "Frankie & Johnny"! A BUNCH of versions! Luckily not all are in contention this week - that'd be too hard a decision!
Great background info from Matt, as usual!

Hi, everyone! Is this the right place to post some news about Matt The Cat? I'm guessing "yes." This is from LARadio.com, June 16 2010:
Matt The Cat (Matt Baldassarri), former host of The Night Prowl Show on XM '50s on 5 from XM's inception until the merger with Sirius, has joined RockitRadio with his new program The Juke In The Back, which features lots of r&b, blues and rock from the formative years - or, as Matt calls it, the soul that came before rock & roll. The program is available on demand at RockitRadio.net |

| I don't need to hear the other eight; I vote for Sam Cooke's 1957 version. The song has also been recorded by Nat "King" Cole, Natalie Cole, Linda Ronstadt, Dean Martin, John Pizzarelli, Ferlin Husky, James Brown, Eddy Howard, Ella Fitzgerald, Laura Fygi, Marvin Gaye & Mary Wells, Supremes, Cleftones, Righteous Brothers, and many others. Oh yeah, it was also recorded by........Kathie Lee Gifford? Yikes! |

Matt the Cat makes it difficult once again with choosing an instrumental for the Cat Fight! "Java" is the tune this time, with three great versions by Al Hirt, Floyd Cramer & Allen Toussaint. Plus a bunch of other great tunes in the mix! Enjoy! |

For my money, the best version was by the Rivileers, recorded in 1955 on the Baton label. I'm surprised Matt didn't include it in the competition. _________________ |

A newly shortened Cat Fight is up, and in time for the Fourth!
Even though he's now focusing on his new show, "Juke in the Back," and the Cat Fights are now shorter, the quality is there. Short & sweet, indeed!

Matt's computer troubles are fixed, and he's back with a new Cat Fight!
This time it's over "Sloop John B" and I had no idea the song went back so much further than the Beach Boys' version. Matt the Cat's always informative AND entertaining!
Check it out http://www.mattthecat.com/FNCF/! |

This week it's all about "You are My Sunshine," a song that some people could find maddening. But the way Matt the Cat presents them, they're lively and fresh.
Enjoy, and VOTE!

| "Hang On Sloopy,” which has become the official State Rock Song of Ohio is this week’s feature on the Friday Night Cat Fight Podcast. We’ll start with the original version (“My Girl Sloopy”) by The Vibrations and follow that with 6 other mostly hit versions of the tune, including the McCoy’s #1 version from 1965. Thanks X-XM Fan for taking over my slacking FNCF updates!
This week it's the Elvis Triple Threat in honor of the 33rd anniversary of Elvis' passing. Some great, lesser-known Elvis covers of great songs. Check it out! You get to vote thrice!
