You just talked me out of going for the lifetime subscription. Although the End of Times would preclude the requirement for me to save money in the interim. I'll have to seek out the wisdom of Pat Robertson on this important matter.

My 5-year sub will finish this April and am wondering what lengh sub SXM will "automatically" renew me at (5-year subs are no longer available). Maybe I'll just go for the $77 special and piss off the kool-aid crowd.

You're assuming anyone cares what you do.

Clearly an accurate assumption! I appreciate the validation (although your buttons are just a tad too easy to push).

Don't think that you are that important, Richie.

I like satellite radio alot.

But I wonder if the 3G on my cellphone can compete. I can listen to any internet station that streams with Windows Media. I am paying $23 a month for unlimited downloading and that includes my web and e-mail stuff. Since 3G became available, it is fairly reliable and the sound quality is pretty good. Plus you can add memory and download up to 32GB of music and video on the phone. But I really like radio.

On the downside, 3G coverage is limited to my metro area and I think this is true for most cell services. Any trip to the outskirts and with 3G gone, you just keep dropping connection. Satellite is far superior when taking a trip. More sports is available on XM.

SXM is available ANYWHERE in the USA coast to coast direct form the sky for the SATS, that's way better to me than any g3 or g4 phone can ever be Very Happy

Also, just FYI, the "unlimited" downloading you think you have is actually capped at 5GB per month.

Thanks for the tip. I researched that info after your post and supposively T-Mobile's service contracts say 10GB a month, but I'm sure they could limit it more if they want. I get the drift. Unlimited is not unlimited. Makes you wonder how they get away with saying "unlimited."

The same way SXM gets away with saying "lifetime" subscription.

Well it is a lifetime subscription. Lifetime of the radio (technically the lifetime of 4 radios).

It's quite a bit different when the cell providers say in bold letters "UNLIMITED DATA" when in fact it is limited. Quite limited, actually.

That indeed is the great scam of data transmission at the moment. And yes, until data is truly unlimited and available over much wider areas, mobile Internet radio can't come close to competing with other broadcast formats. We're kind of in the "cats whisker" era of Internet broadcasting.

Once again, we've said this time and time again before. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with technology, price, or options when comparing the internet choices to satellite radio.

It's about programming...and I'm talking about actually picking songs on a daily basis that will appeal to your listeners. HBO, Cinemax, and Showtime have been around for years...I didn't see VHS, Blockbuster, DVD, Netflix, or Blue Ray dethrone them.

Believe me, I totally understand the argument. But, it's just not that simple.
