It was a lot better than what I expected

Or, what I meant to say is that it wasn't nearly as bad as what I expected Laughing

I've seen the Who 7 or 8 times. Without John Entwistle, it just isn't the same. Band was still good after Keith died. But not without the Ox.

At the Concert For NY (the 9/11 show) which I was very lucky to be at, the Who was UNBELIEVABLE. And that was only a 4 or 5 song set. Full songs, not the medley at the Super Bowl.

Even The Who didn't think their performance was that spectacular:

Did you read beyond the headline, which was totally unrepresentative of what the story said?

I saw them in 2000 with Entwistle and in 2002 just after his death. Musically, I couldn't tell much difference. And I don't care for "Boris the Spider." His presence on the stage did make the other two look young though. Wink

Based on their performance at the Super Bowl, the loss of Keith Moon was much more noticeable. Starkey was just going through the motions. It was as if he'd never even heard Moon's versions of any of the songs.

Yes, the article where Daltrey said that it wasn't their best show ever?

Oh, and this:
Quote:
"Miami is so different these days. It's not just a retirement community," Daltrey said nostalgically. "Now Miami is fun and hip, and I'm too old to enjoy it."

Maybe the opposite can be said of a crowd at the Super Bowl: Maybe fans are too young to enjoy classic rock.

Essentially he's even admitting it was a bad act for a young audience.

But, I know that you're stuck on it being the best performance in the history of music and so be it.

Exactly where did Daltrey say it wasn't their best show ever? Please quote that for me.

Here's what he actually said:

Quote:
Daltrey, who doesn't hide the fact that he isn't a fan of American football, thought the whole idea of singing a medley of classic rock songs in 12 minutes at halftime of a sporting event was "a little strange."

"It didn't even feel like a concert," Daltrey said. "It's a television show. And what can you do in 12 minutes?"

I also didn't say it was their best performance in history. That's just silly. Of course they were better back when they were younger. But they're legends of rock, and a little respect would be nice -- even coming from the youngsters. With any luck, you'll be old someday too.

And why do you assume that it's a "young audience" anyway? How many young people can afford tickets to the Super Bowl? I'm betting the demographic at the game was definitely biased toward the older.

They are not as good when they were younger but I enjoyed the show.

sorry this is so late.
I thought the light show was spectacular. It looked really cool on my HDTV.
The WHO themselves were just ok, obviously past their prime but still good to see them.

NFL has made an overture to Eric Clapton (and Friends) for the Super Bowl in 2011.
